GlyMed Peel in Orange County: What to Expect and Cost
By The Glow Up Med Spa team
A GlyMed peel in Orange County is a professional, surface-level chemical peel that brightens dull skin, evens out tone and smooths rough texture with little to no downtime. At Glow Up Med Spa in Cypress, we choose one of three GlyMed Plus peels for your skin at each visit, and one session is listed at $275 on our GlyMed Peel page. Expect mild redness and possibly a little flaking for a few days, then brighter, smoother skin.
- What it is: a gentle, professional chemical peel chosen from three GlyMed Plus formulas.
- Good for: pigmentation, breakouts, uneven texture, scarring and a tired-looking complexion.
- Downtime: little to none. Expect some redness, warmth or tingling, and possibly light flaking.
- Cost: $275 for one session, as listed on our service page on October 6, 2026.
What a GlyMed peel is
A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin that loosens the dull outer layer so fresher skin can come through. Peels come in three broad depths: light, medium and deep. The American Academy of Dermatology describes the lightest kind as a “refreshing” or “lunchtime” peel, and the deeper ones as treatments that need real recovery time, with a deep peel done under general anesthesia in a surgical setting (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
The peels we use sit firmly at the gentle end of that scale. Our service is built around three GlyMed Plus professional peels:
- the 5 Berry Pigment Control Peel
- the Vitamin A Peel
- the Pigmentation Lift Peel
Your provider picks the one that fits what your skin needs. The aim is cellular renewal: a brighter complexion, more refined texture, and smoother skin. You can book it as a one-off, or make it part of a regular routine to keep your skin in good shape between other treatments.
Chemical peels have a long track record. The AAD notes that dermatologists have been performing them for more than 50 years, with an excellent safety record, and lists acne, age spots, blotchy or uneven tone, a dull complexion, fine lines, freckles, melasma, rough-feeling skin and sun damage among the things peels are used for (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs; AAD, Chemical peels: Overview). That describes chemical peels in general rather than the GlyMed formulas specifically.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
A GlyMed peel is a good fit if you want gentle exfoliation, brighter skin, better texture and some antioxidant support without taking time off. It's made for surface-level renewal and upkeep. People often book it when:
- their skin looks flat or tired even with a good routine
- they have dark spots or patchy tone they'd like to soften
- breakouts keep leaving marks behind
- their skin feels rough and makeup doesn't sit well
It's probably not the right first step if you're hoping to change deep wrinkles or loose skin. A light peel works on the surface, and we'd rather tell you that at your consultation than sell you a series that can't do what you want. We'll suggest something better suited instead.
A few things mean we'll want to talk first, and sometimes wait:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Some treatments, including medical-grade skin care, may not be suitable. We go through your health history at the consultation.
- Isotretinoin. The AAD suggests telling your provider if you take, or have ever taken, isotretinoin, the prescription medicine for severe acne (AAD, Chemical peels: Preparation). The advice on timing isn't settled. The traditional rule was to wait months after finishing a course, but a 2017 expert panel review found insufficient evidence to support delaying superficial chemical peels for people taking it or who recently finished it (JAMA Dermatology, 2017). Please check with the doctor who prescribes it before booking or changing anything.
- Cold sores, easy scarring, or other medicines. The AAD also suggests mentioning cold sores (now or in the past), skin that scars easily, all your medicines including antibiotics, acne treatments and aspirin, and any herbs or supplements (AAD, Chemical peels: Preparation).
- Age. Most of our treatments are for clients 18 and older.
What to expect before, during and after
Before. Your first visit starts with a free consultation. We look at your skin, ask about your goals and medical history, and give you clear pricing before anything happens. For some people, a short pre-peel skin care plan helps. The AAD says some patients follow one for 2 to 4 weeks beforehand to improve results and reduce side effects (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs). We'll let you know if that applies to you.
During. Your skin is cleansed, then the peel is applied and watched closely. Mild redness, warmth or tingling is normal while it's on and for a short while afterwards.
After. Over the next few days your skin may feel a little dry or flake lightly as it renews. For light peels, the AAD puts healing at 1 to 7 days, with possible scaling for 3 to 7 days once the redness fades, and says makeup can usually go on straight away or the next day (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
Aftercare is simple, and these are our suggestions:
- Stick to a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for the first 24 to 48 hours.
- Many providers suggest pausing exfoliants, retinoids and other active products for that window. If your retinoid is a prescription, check with the doctor who prescribes it before pausing or restarting it.
- Wear sunscreen every day. It protects the fresh skin and helps the results last.
- Try not to pick or peel flaking skin, and skip tanning beds. The AAD links both to a higher risk of infection and scarring (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
Results and how long they last
Smoother texture, a brighter tone and fresher-looking skin usually show within several days. One peel gives you a nice lift. Bigger changes usually come from a series: the AAD says 3 to 5 light peels may be needed for the results people are after, repeated every 2 to 5 weeks (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
Results aren't permanent, because skin keeps aging and the sun keeps working on it. The AAD notes that people with a lot of sun damage will likely keep seeing new spots over time (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs). That's why daily sunscreen and the occasional maintenance peel matter so much here in Southern California.
For melasma, a 2024 systematic review of 24 studies covering 1,075 people found chemical peels safe and effective in its management (Dermatologic Surgery, 2024). The same review describes melasma as chronic and relapsing, so think of peels as one part of keeping it under control rather than a cure. Those studies used a range of peels, not GlyMed's specifically.
If breakouts are your main concern, a peel can work alongside a home-care plan.
GlyMed peel in Orange County: what it costs
One GlyMed peel session is listed at $275 on our GlyMed Peel page as of October 6, 2026. The page also offers a three-session option, so check there for the current price before you book. The consultation is free, and we'll be upfront about whether one peel or a short series makes more sense for your skin.
Chemical peels are a cosmetic treatment, and the AAD notes that insurance does not cover cosmetic treatments (AAD, Chemical peels: Overview). If you'd like to spread the cost, ask about payment plans at your visit.
Risks and side effects
Light peels are among the gentler treatments we offer, but they're still a professional skin treatment, and it's worth knowing what can happen.
Common and short-lived: redness, warmth, tingling, dryness and light flaking for a few days.
Less common: crusting, redness that lingers, or patches of skin that turn temporarily darker (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). The AAD lists persistent redness that may last for months and temporary darkening of the skin among possible side effects (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
Skin of color: people with deeper skin tones can safely have chemical peels, but they carry a higher risk of pigment changes, and the AAD warns that without the right expertise those changes can be permanent (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs). In a 2018 study of 473 superficial peels in people with skin types III to VI, 3.8% led to a complication. The most frequent were crusting (2.3%), darkening (1.9%) and redness (1.9%), and all of them resolved within 8 months. The darkest skin type had higher odds of a side effect, and side effects were less common in winter (Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2018). Tell us about your skin's history with dark marks, and we'll factor it into which peel we choose.
Rare and serious: infection and scarring. The AAD lists scarring as a possible side effect and says the risk rises sharply with sun exposure, picking at treated skin, or wearing makeup before skin has healed (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs).
What to do: if your skin burns, itches or swells, blisters, or looks infected after a peel, call us at 657-820-6472. If it feels severe or you're worried outside our hours, get medical care right away.
One more note: the AAD passes on an FDA warning that some peels sold for home use have caused serious injuries, and advises using a chemical peel only under the supervision of a licensed, trained provider (AAD, Chemical peels: Overview).
Frequently asked questions
Does a GlyMed peel hurt?
You will likely feel warmth or tingling rather than pain. That feeling eases soon after the peel comes off. If anything feels too strong during the appointment, tell your provider straight away.
Will my face peel a lot?
Usually not. You might see light flaking or dryness for a few days as the skin renews, but nothing like the dramatic peeling people picture. Deeper peels are the ones that crust and shed for a week or more.
Can I wear makeup afterwards?
With a light peel, the AAD says makeup can usually go on right after or the next day (AAD, Chemical peels: FAQs). We'd suggest gentle, simple products for the first day or two.
Can I combine a peel with other treatments?
Often, yes. Many of our treatments complement each other, though some need to be spaced out for safety or better results. We'll plan the order with you at your consultation.
Which of the three GlyMed peels will I get?
Each peel is chosen for what your skin needs, whether that's pigmentation, breakouts, uneven texture or scarring. Ask your provider why they picked the one they did; we're always happy to explain.
