Morpheus8 in Orange County: What to Expect Before and After

Morpheus8 in Orange County is one of the treatments we offer at Glow Up Med Spa in Cypress, for skin that has started to loosen along the jaw and neck, look crepey or lose its smooth texture. Morpheus8, made by InMode, pairs microneedling with radiofrequency heat, so it reaches deeper than microneedling alone. It usually takes a series of visits and a few days of redness, not weeks off. Here's what it is, who it suits, what to expect, how long results last, what it costs here and the risks worth knowing before you book.

Quick answer

  • Morpheus8 is radiofrequency (RF) microneedling: tiny needles carry RF energy into and under the skin to heat it in small, controlled spots (FDA).
  • It suits loose skin that isn't yet bad enough for a facelift, for people who would rather avoid surgery and accept a more modest change (Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2025).
  • Studies on RF microneedling often use a series of three treatments (Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 2016; Journal of Dermatological Treatment, 2026), and the FDA notes you may need more than one (FDA).
  • Our prices start at $400.00 for Eyes / 1 on our Morpheus8 service page.
  • Redness and swelling are the usual side effects. The FDA has also had reports of serious problems such as burns, scarring and fat loss, so who treats you matters.

What Morpheus8 is and how it works

Morpheus8 is an RF microneedling device. The FDA describes these devices as an array of tiny electrodes, or microneedles, that go into the skin and let radiofrequency energy reach set depths within and under it. Each needle makes a small area of intense heat at its tip, and the skin changes as it heals from that heat (FDA safety communication, October 2025). That healing is where the firmer, smoother look comes from, which is why results build over weeks rather than showing up the next morning.

A review in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology describes Morpheus8 being studied on the face for concerns from skin laxity to acne and scarring, with less downtime than older, more invasive approaches (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2022).

On regulation: the FDA clears RF microneedling devices as Class II medical devices through its 510(k) process, and the uses each device is cleared for are listed device by device in the FDA's database. Using a device for something outside its clearance is an off-label use, so ask us at your consultation where your treatment area sits. The FDA is also clear that RF microneedling is a medical procedure, not a cosmetic treatment, and that these devices shouldn't be used at home (FDA).

Who Morpheus8 suits, and who it doesn't

The people we see asking about Morpheus8 usually point to the same things in the mirror: a jawline that has softened into early jowls, looser skin on the neck, crepey texture, fine lines or old acne scars. Authors writing in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal describe RF microneedling as a good fit for a "treatment gap": skin laxity that isn't severe enough for a facelift but is too much for gentler treatments, laxity that has come back after a face or neck lift, and people who could have a lift but would rather skip surgery and accept a more modest improvement (Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2025).

It isn't for everyone. The FDA's page on microneedling devices says the procedure may not be suitable if you:

  • have a bleeding or clotting disorder, or take a blood thinner such as warfarin, heparin or low-dose aspirin;
  • have a weakened immune system, uncontrolled diabetes, or an active skin infection, rash or cold sore outbreak;
  • have or have had eczema, psoriasis, vitiligo or an autoimmune disease;
  • are taking isotretinoin (Accutane) or have taken it in the past 6 months;
  • have keloid scars or a history of them, or moles, warts or birthmarks in the area;
  • are tanned or planning time in the sun in the two weeks after treatment;
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are allergic to stainless steel or numbing creams (FDA).

If you take a prescription blood thinner or any other medicine on that list, please check with the doctor who prescribes it before changing anything. And if your skin has loosened a lot, we'll tell you honestly that Morpheus8 won't do what surgery does.

What to expect before, during and after

Before. Your first visit is a consultation. We look at your skin, ask about your health, medicines and skin history, and talk through whether Morpheus8 fits what you want. Let us know if you get cold sores, since microneedling can bring them back (FDA). Many providers suggest arriving with no tan and saving sun-heavy plans, like a weekend in Huntington Beach, for a while after treatment.

During. Numbing cream goes on first. Then the handpiece is pressed to the skin section by section while the needles deliver their heat. A 2026 systematic review of RF microneedling for the face found pain was typically mild to moderate and well tolerated (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2026).

After. Redness and swelling are the most common effects (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2026). In one study of RF microneedling on the lower face and neck, downtime lasted 3 to 4 days (Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 2016). Dryness, tightness, peeling and a little crusting are also common, and, less often, some people see lines on the face (FDA). A few suggestions many providers give for the first days: keep to a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, wear sunscreen and a hat, hold off on retinoids and exfoliating acids until your skin has settled, and wait on makeup until your provider says your skin is ready.

Results and how long they last

Because results come from healing, they build slowly. In a small study of nine people whose jowls and neck loosened again after a facelift, treated with Morpheus8 and another InMode RF device, investigators rated 33% as markedly improved at 3 months and 55% at 6 months, with no adverse events reported (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2021). Read that as a sign that results keep improving for months, not as a promise.

How many sessions? Studies tend to use three: three treatments a month apart for the lower face and neck (Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 2016), and three sessions eight weeks apart for acne scars (Journal of Dermatological Treatment, 2026). Your plan depends on your skin and the area.

How long do results last? In a small study of 13 people who had three RF microneedling treatments, the researchers were still seeing a difference in the folds beside the nose at a one-year follow-up (Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 2017). We couldn't find a trusted source that puts a firm number on how long Morpheus8 results last beyond that, and your skin keeps aging either way, so we talk about upkeep at your consultation rather than quote a figure.

Risks: common, rare and serious

Common. The FDA lists these for microneedling devices: dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, burning, bruising, bleeding and crusting. Most settle soon after treatment (FDA).

Less common. Pigment changes (darker or lighter patches), lines on the face, cold sores coming back, swollen lymph nodes, infection, and stinging when you put on skin products (FDA).

Rare but serious. In October 2025 the FDA warned that it has received reports of serious complications with RF microneedling used to improve the skin, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage, some needing surgery or other medical treatment to repair (FDA safety communication). An analysis of the FDA's adverse event reports from 2013 to 2025 found 114 reports describing 224 problems. The most frequent were texture changes (25%), pigment changes (18.3%) and fat loss (11.6%), with burns at 6.3% (Dermatologic Surgery, 2026). Those percentages are shares of the reported problems, not the odds of any one treatment going wrong.

The sources don't all read the same. A systematic review of 20 clinical studies (558 people) found side effects were mostly mild and short-lived, with no serious complications reported (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2026), while the FDA's reports show that serious injuries do happen in real-world use. On darker skin, a review of studies in skin of color found a low risk of scarring or darkening, but noted that much of the evidence is weak (Dermatologic Surgery, 2023), and the FDA lists darker skin as a reason microneedling may not suit you, because of the risk of the skin darkening or lightening (FDA). If you have darker skin or have had pigment problems before, tell us so we can plan around it.

What to do. Call us on 657-820-6472 if redness, swelling or pain gets worse instead of better after the first few days, or if you notice blisters, open sores, pus, a fever, numbness, or a dent or hollow in the treated skin. If it feels severe or you feel unwell, go to urgent care or call 911. The FDA also asks patients to report problems after RF microneedling through its MedWatch form.

The FDA suggests asking any provider about their training, which device they use, and whether every session gets a new needle cartridge (FDA microneedling devices; FDA RF microneedling safety communication). We're happy to answer all three.

Frequently asked questions

Does Morpheus8 hurt?

You'll feel heat and pressure. Numbing cream goes on first, and in a 2026 review of RF microneedling studies, pain was usually mild to moderate and well tolerated (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2026). Tell us if it's too much and we'll pause.

How many Morpheus8 sessions will I need?

Studies of RF microneedling usually use a series of three, spaced a month to eight weeks apart (Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 2016; Journal of Dermatological Treatment, 2026). Some people need more or fewer, depending on the area and how their skin responds.

Can Morpheus8 replace a facelift?

No. It's an option for people who want to avoid surgery and are happy with a more modest improvement, or whose laxity isn't yet at the facelift stage (Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2025). If a surgeon could do more for you, we'll say so.

Is Morpheus8 safe for darker skin?

The evidence is mixed. A review found a low risk of scarring or darkening in skin of color, though many of the studies were weak (Dermatologic Surgery, 2023), and the FDA lists darker skin types as a risk for pigment changes after microneedling (FDA). We'll talk through your skin history before deciding.

How is Morpheus8 different from regular microneedling?

Regular microneedling uses needles alone, while Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency heat through the needles to reach deeper. We're happy to go through which suits your concern at your consultation.
